Field Day 2015
By Kate and Henry

Westside Middle School Field day was last Friday at Walt Huntley and was a huge blast for all middle school students. Every advisory came with their spirit and team color, ready to compete. After a long, hot day of very competitive activities, Susannah's advisory came out on top for 7th and 8th with the most points for their age division. The 7/8th grade silver went to Sue's, the bronze to Jillian and fourth was Sarah's. As for 5/6 advisories Glyn’s was the winner, Mike's took second, Michael thrid, Jeremy fourth, Krystal fifth and Lauren and Mary tied for sixth.

Races throughout the day included sprints, cartwheel race, wheelbarrow relays, as well as water balloon toss, sponge squeezing pass and tug of war. Students were given a pizza lunch and then had extra time to participate in kickball, soccer, and ultimate frisbee.
The most popular of games though was soccer.
In all, everyone had a great time and especially enjoyed the popsicles at the end of the day. Congratulations to every advisory who participated!

Westside Track 2015

By Kate

This year, Westside has their biggest track team and is looking strong heading towards the end of the season. With runners from 4th through 8th grade, the team has had the ability to spread out participants in all events including:

50m, 60m, 75m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m
Shuttle relay, 4x100m relay, girls and boys sprint medley, co-ed 4x400
Long jump, high jump, shot put, turbo jav, softball throw

There has previously been the individual qualification meet, where all athletes were trying to make it into the top four or five, in both running and field events. Overall it was a very successful meet and many of Westside's team qualified in a multitude of events. This past Saturday was the individual championships, for all runners that qualified. Medals and ribbons were awarded to all the qualifiers in their events. However, for those who didn't make it to the individual championship, everyone was invited to participate in the all-comers meet that started before the championships. Everyone did extremely well and placed among the top.

All meets are at Renton Memorial Stadium this year and will continue through the 30th of May with the exception of Memorial Day. The last meet will wrap up or season with a team championship and a battle for the most points earned in every event.

We wish all our athletes the best of luck as they finish their season!

This is the first year a Westside team will be in the playoffs. Both the 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams made it into the playoffs. Last Friday afternoon the school had a Pep rally, celebrating their accomplishment. There was posters, banners and cheers. The 8th graders played Thursday April 3rd at 7pm in the St. Catherine gym. The 7th graders played at 2pm on Saturday April 6th at the St. Catherine gym. We appreciate those who came and supported our teams. Thank you!
These are the Westside volleyball players:

Both teams tried their hardest and played an excellent game. But unfortunately, both teams lost. Westside is officially out of the playoffs. Overall it has been a great season with many successes. Hopefully next season we will have even more luck. We will work hard and do our best to win Westside a trophy!

Westside Basketball

It's basketball season at Westside!  There are five teams this year; 5th and 6th girls combination, 7th and 8th girls combination, 5th boys, 6th boys, and 7th and 8th combination boys. The seventh and eighth grade teams are practicing at Hillcrest and the fifth and sixth graders practice at Westside.  The first game is the weekend before Thanksgiving and there are seven more games after thanksgiving.  You better get stocked up with some of that turkey because after Thanksgiving be ready for seven basketball games.  Mike says that his goal is that as Westside continues to grow, to have a boys and girls team per grade level.  If you like basketball you should come out watch Westside!
